Xbox HD Setting Help

Ok I'm trying to set my xbox elite to 720p on my 42' inch Samsung Plasma but when I set it to 720p it automatically sets the tv format to Widescreen when I want it to be on Normal. Right now my display setting is 420p and the Format is Normal. So if anyone knows why I can't change my Format after I change the display to 720p I'd really appreciate it, Thanks ...
